Use the Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the retaining screws on the rear of the HP desktop computer that secure the left-side access panel.

Move the computer to a clean work surface. Power off the HP desktop computer and disconnect all of the cables and external devices. Select your network and click “Connect.”Įnter the security key or password for the wireless network connection if prompted.Ĭlick “Connect.” After Windows displays a message confirming the connection to the wireless router was successful, launch your preferred Web browser and surf the Internet normally using the new wireless connection. The SSID of your router should appear in the available connections list after you restart the computer and refresh the list of available wireless networks. If the network name for your router does not appear in the list, restart the wireless router and the HP desktop computer. Select the SSID, or wireless network name, for your router in the list of available connections. Right-click the wireless network icon on the taskbar and click “Open Network and Sharing Center.” In the Network and Sharing Center window, click “Set up a New Connection or Network | Connect to the Internet | Next | Wireless.” A wireless network icon will appear in the taskbar, near the clock.

Windows configures the wireless adapter for use after a few seconds of installing the built-in driver or the one from the installation disc. For most wireless USB adapters, Windows does not require third-party drivers because it has the needed software built in to the operating system. Insert the driver disc for the USB wireless adapter into the CD or DVD drive of the HP computer if prompted by Windows. If your HP system has USB ports in the front of the case, plug the USB cable for the network adapter into one of those, because you may receive a better wireless signal than you would if connecting the device to the rear of the desktop computer. Insert the mini-plug end of the USB cable into the USB network adapter, and connect the other end to the computer.
